As an on-going project in college in 2009, I started Quintessential Zine, a monthly independently-produced print publication. I collected work from local artists and writers, and created a publication for the alternative audience of upstate New York. I also focused my thesis on the culture of independent publishers and held quite a vested interest in the subject throughout my college career. I created a total of 13 issues, which involved limited edition covers with art from local artists and various color photo inserts that acted as trading cards. The zine grew in popularity and towards the end of its duration, had sponsorship from local businesses, including support from the staff at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, NY. I did not create a digital version, as I wanted it to exist solely in print. Each issue was about 12-15 pages in length and was a collaborative effort between local artists and myself. I also gave a guest lecture at the University at Albany in a graduate-level course to share my knowledge on the subjects of independent publishing and underground zine culture.
