HERE’S SOME MORE INFO ABOUT ME, KC ORCUTT. BECAUSE WRITING IN THIRD PERSON ON YOUR OWN PORTFOLIO WEBSITE MAKES YOU A LEGIT WORKING PROFESSIONAL. OR SO I’VE HEARD.

Currently based in Los Angeles, KC Orcutt is a writer from upstate New York. Over the years, such a descriptor has since evolved into more specific titles, such as “journalist,” “copywriter,” “content creator,” and the evergreen favorite, “creative.” Ultimately, the intrinsic nature of KC’s work has revolved around words and people for as long as she can remember, and as a Gemini, that’s exactly how she likes it.

After landing her first assignment as a freelance journalist with her hometown Hearst publication in 2010, KC went on to graduate from the University of Albany the following year with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Journalism. With an initial focus on music, entertainment and local news, KC's journalism career began to tangibly take shape, leading her to cultivate an alternative start-up publication alongside photographer/founder Andrew Franciosa, collaborate with a variety of independently-owned companies, learn more about the craft of journalism, work with an award-winning fashion designer, walk a handful of dogs (professionally!) and collect new bylines along the way.

In 2015, she relocated to New York City, where she went on to work for publications such as BET, REVOLT TV and XXL, while also expanding into the realm of branded content through a strategic partnership between Spotify and Billboard. In 2019, KC moved to Los Angeles to continue building her career as a freelance writer, going on to collaborate with the creative agency Finally Offline on an array of copywriting projects, including assisting with campaigns for Adidas, Red Bull and multi-hyphenate artist Will Nichols, to name a few. In June 2021, KC joined the Variety Content Studio as an Editor, and was promoted to Senior Editor in 2022. In this role, she oversaw advertorial campaigns for a range of clients from pre-sale through to production, contributing creative strategy and managing a freelance roster of writers, editors, designers and illustrators. In July 2023, KC’s position at Variety was eliminated due to the impact of the dual strikes in Hollywood, leaving her to shift gears and focus on freelance clients and projects, such as SoundCloud, Umoré Beauty and UPROXX.

From interviewing a wide range of musicians and entrepreneurial creatives to crafting engaging web copy for major brand campaigns and for businesses started by her friends alike, KC's career has been consistently guided by being, first and foremost, an enthusiast of her craft. With an emphasis on collaboration and quality storytelling, KC is happily finding ways to be more versatile, adaptive, creative and impactful with her work, continually striving for growth as a writer, editor and collaborative partner. She is inspired by music, art, culture, entertainment, wellness and people who do things with passion.
