Bio-writing service: Grammy Award-winning producer My Guy Mars

October 5, 2017

Hailing from Los Angeles, Calif., My Guy Mars (Lamar Edwards) is a multi-time Grammy nominee and award winner multifaceted recording artist, best known for his production, songwriting and for his work as a solo musician.

Born to musical parents, with his mother (Tracie Edwards) a singer and his father (Clifton Edwards Jr.) a minister, songwriter and artist, My Guy Mars grew up with the sounds of gospel, soul and R&B happily filling his family's household, inspiring him to explore his own talents from a young age, even playing organ each week in his grandfather's church.

From learning the piano at the age of four with the expert guidance of his father to teaching himself how to play drums, guitar, bass and percussion, My Guy Mars' knowledge and understanding of music paved a necessary foundation for him to study a wide range of genres and perfect his craft, leading up to his being introduced to hip-hop and rap as a high school student. Enamored by the artistry of J. Dilla, My Guy Mars joined his first band, 1500 or Nothin' at age 17, during which he began solidifying himself as an artist with a dedicated emphasis on top-tier musicianship, polished execution and vibrant creativity, integral qualities that became definitive of his career today.

With his band-turned-collective leading him to an array of life-changing opportunities since their formation in 2006, such as utilizing Snoop Dogg's studio due to attending the Musician Institute and catching the attention of Bobby Valentino as a result, My Guy Mars soon found himself working for the likes of hip-hop veterans such as Snoop and T.I. From working on the theme music for T.I.'s VH1 show, Family Hustle, to recording his own solo material, My Guy Mars has established himself as one of music's most trustworthy and go-to collaborators, often praised for his professionalism and humble nature.

He has since gone on to lend his production and songwriting expertise to the likes of a star-studded client list, including his mentors, T.I. and Snoop Dog, as well as some of contemporary music's most talented and celebrated acts, including R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Drake, Faith Evans, Bow Wow, Busta Rhymes, Bobby Valentino, The Game, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Master P, Jennifer Hudson, Marsha Ambrosius, Mya, Nelly, Nipsey Hussle, Wiz Khalifa, YG, 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla Sign, Mac Miller and more.

With a consistent hunger to continuously evolve his craft and share his wealth of musical knowledge with other like-minded creatives, My Guy Mars began his own record label, Astronaught Gang, as well as began hosting his celebrated radio show, which currently airs weekly on DASH Radio.

With a vast array of music credits under his belt, as well as several hard-earned plaques adorning his studio walls, his collection of solo material currently includes two projects hosted by DJ Don Cannon, Life on Mars (2010) and My Guy Mars (2013), an instrumental tape, 2012's The Best on Earth and his latest solo mixtape, No Days Off (2016). While he continues to develop his sound and work alongside 1500 or Nothin', My Guy Mars can be found living each day with gratitude, whether he is lending his talents on stage or on the road alike.
